Ms. McDonald, whether working on commissioned or non-commissioned paintings, usually works from candid photographs of her subjects rather than staged photographic portraits. If you are considering commissioning a painting from the artist, it is generally a good idea to have a few photos in mind as some will function more naturally as paintings than others.

When working with a patron on a commissioned painting, the patron can have as much or as little influence on the finished piece as they desire. Ms. McDonald believes that the patron should feel free to voice his or her own ideas as to color choices, level of abstraction, or any other aspect of the work. If on the other hand, the patron wishes to leave these choices up to the artist, she is again more than happy to oblige.

Prices are dependent on a number of factors but are primarily determined by size. The size of each painting is measured in square feet of painted surface.

Prices deviate slightly due to complexity and number of portraits within the painting. Exact price for a commissioned painting can be supplied within one or two days of the initial meeting between artist and patron.

Size for past commissioned work has been as large as six by six feet, but this is by no means a limit.

All of Ms. McDonald's commissions are painted on gallery depth hardwood panel in oil unless requested otherwise and are archival.
